Protect your security information like you do your social security number, bank accounts and credit cards.

Reason dictates that you wouldn’t offer a stranger information about your financial or personal life; but should you feel comfortable giving out your security information to perfect strangers? What about family members, property caretakers, cleaning people and contractors who might have access to your property too? Our advice is to treat your Vector Security information just like you treat your social security number, bank account information and credit card numbers. Provide this information only to those in whom you have complete trust, and no one else.

So what does your Vector Security information entail? Well, first and foremost, your alarm system arm and disarm code; but it goes much further. Your security information includes your personal Vector Security password(s), your emergency contact list, the complete scope of protection your system provides, and how it operates. But that’s still not all...Your contractual paperwork, including your monitoring contract and Emergency Data (EDS) sheet, contains vital information concerning your system, how it’s monitored and how Vector Security will respond to a variety of emergency signals from home or business. Contractual information, service records and other paperwork information relative to your Vector Security system should be stored in a secure location and you should be aware of the location of any copies of that information. Never give that information out to anyone except someone you trust or an authorized Vector Security representative.

Why are we stressing this request so emphatically? Here’s why. As more and more home and business owners install security systems, the number of unprotected properties within a given community begin to diminish. This reduces the number of attractive properties thieves can break into, forcing them to think of creative ways to “defeat or circumvent” an installed system. Thieves are now trying to obtain operational information about security systems as a way to easily defeat them, much like online “pfishers” try to obtain your credit card, social security number or bank account numbers to empty your accounts or run up purchases on them. People can also try to solicit information about your Vector Security system through the mail, on the phone or even in person. So our advice when a stranger asks questions about how your Vector Security system operates, where it’s monitored or details concerning your monitoring contract with us, tell him or her that the information is strictly private between you and Vector Security.

FAQs

What items encompass my security information? First and foremost, your alarm system arm and disarm code; but it goes much further. Never give that information out to anyone except someone you trust or an authorized Vector Security representative.

Why does that information need to remain secure? As more and more home and business owners install security systems, the number of unprotected properties within a given community begin to diminish. This reduces the number of attractive properties thieves can break into, forcing them to think of creative ways to “defeat or circumvent” an installed system. Thieves are now trying to obtain operational information about security systems as a way to easily defeat them, much like online “pfishers” try to obtain your credit card, social security number or bank account numbers to empty your accounts or run up purchases on them.

By what means could someone try to gain my security information? People can try to solicit information about your Vector Security system through the mail, on the phone or even in person through neighborhood canvassing.

Five Important Home Security Tips

Unknown Filed Under: Labels:
In order to keep burglars from targeting your home, there are plenty of things you can do. Obviously one approach is to install a burglar alarm with all kinds of fancy equipment, but for some, the budget just will not allow for anything like that. How about some home security tips that you can do yourself, for little money?

The number one home security tip is to put up signs of various kinds. You could find stickers from any security company's and put those on your windows. Other functional signs include "Beware of Dog," or "Smile! You are on camera." The reason these kinds of obvious signs work is because burglars are looking for easy targets. You make your home a far more difficult looking target if you use these signs. How about that for a cheap home security deal?

Another important, yet common sense, home security tip is to keep track of your keys. Do not hide one outside; burglars know all of the places you might use. If you are worried that you will lock yourself out of your home, get a biometric lock or get help from a very trusted neighbor. Additionally, if you move into a rental, get permission to install new locks. Do this because you do not know how many copies of the keys to your home are out there and who has them. A home security tip that goes hand in hand with key control is to always lock doors and windows. No matter where you live, take the extra moment to lock your door behind you.

The fourth home security tip is to use good lighting strategies. This requires some special equipment, but said equipment is not very expensive and can easily be installed on your own. First, you want to reduce shadows near your exterior walls. So get some good exterior lights and have them turn on when night falls. Incidentally, some good burglar alarms include this type of lighting. Next, it can be a good idea to have your interior lights on a timer. If the lights in your home go on and off at regular times, a burglar casing the area will not know, you are traveling when you are on vacation.

The final home security tip is to look into a good burglar alarm. Take some time to compare security companies so that you can find a good home security deal. As you compare security companies, you want to look at more than price. You want to study the type of equipment each burglar alarm uses. You will also want to find a home security deal that includes 24 hour monitoring. There are plenty of good companies out there that offer great burglar alarms. All the same, taking the time to compare security companies will help you rest more at ease at the same time that you get a good home security deal.

Custom Security to Fit Your Needs

At Power Home Technologies, we know that custom security solutions offer the highest level of personal protection for your family and property. Just like a house is not a home, a burglar alarm is not a custom security system. In both cases, the individual family is what determines the difference, and that is why our certified security technicians will work with you to ensure that the residential security system we install is fitted not only to your house, but also is tailored to your family and lifestyle.

For example, if you have pets, you may not want interior motion sensors, or else you'll want the ability to bypass them so that your furry friends don't set off the alarm while you're away, or perhaps worse – while you're asleep. Or, if you have children (especially teenagers) you may want to be notified when doors and windows open and close so that nobody sneaks out of the house when they shouldn't be. Our team of security personnel have dealt with these situations and untold others like them, and we consistently find the best solution designed to fit your life.

Our arsenal of custom security products, solutions, and technology include:

  • Electronic entryway sensors (for doors and windows) to detect breaches or intrusion.
  • Sirens to notify the burglar or intruder (and anyone else in the area) of the possible security threat.
  • Interior motion detectors and exterior motion-sensing flood lights.
  • Smoke, heat, and fire detectors with integrated remote monitoring.
  • Vector security monitoring 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Intercom systems which allow you to interact with people at your front door without having to risk opening the door to push-in intruders or robbers.
  • CCTV video surveillance systems which allow you to monitor or record activities inside or outside your residence.

These are just some of the more common products and solutions we regularly use. Our expert security technicians will perform a thorough security audit of your home or residence, then suggest custom security measures based on the structure itself and your family and lifestyle.

To see how truly personalized we can make your custom security system, fill out our online contact form or call us today and let us begin personalizing the security solution that's right for you.

By purchasing Vector security monitoring services through Power Home Technologies, you will receive security monitoring above and beyond industry standards. Vector's regional monitoring centers utilize the latest computer hardware and most technologically advanced receiving software, allowing for multiple levels of monitored coverage redundancy. What this means for you and your family is that if communication with one monitoring station is disrupted, another center immediately assumes security coverage.

Coupled with Vector Security's Secure Trac™ technology, this redundant monitoring coverage allows your residence to be monitored under any circumstance. Secure Trac™ technology is a wireless transmitter that integrates with your Vector security system. If the phone lines (which normally communicate with Vector's monitoring stations) are cut or otherwise inoperable, Secure Trac™ can still wireless transmit the alarm signal. This network of multiple layers of connectivity gives you the absolute peace of mind of knowing that your family and property are always protected by Vector monitoring, no matter what.
